The new deputy mayor of Frankfurt made me feel hopeful again.
It's an interview with Eileen O’Sullivan, who at just 30 years old is the youngest deputy mayor in Frankfurt history.
Her background is also interesting. A true third culture kid and European, she was born in Germany to a Turkish mother and Irish father.
She's incredibly approachable and explains why and how people become frustrated with their governments and what keeps them engaged and/or satisfied. She walks through the painstaking but important process of solving very unsexy problems (consolidating IT departments across governments) that don't make for snappy campaign slogans, but that have real impacts on peoples lives.
Ms. O'Sullivan truly is a public servant.
